Gregg Araki is one of my all-time favorite filmmakers. His aesthetic is so clear and consistent throughout all of his work- dreamlike imagery, rapidfire dialogue, heavy use of shoegaze, over the top costumes, hypersexual characters. It's all so 'of a time'- the XTREME early-to-mid 90s, be exact. His "Teenage Apocalypse trilogy" (Totally F*cked Up, The Doom Generation, Nowhere) is an endless source of outfit inspo for me (and everyone else on Tumblr). The women in Araki's films are larger than life: fiercely independent, full agency over their sexuality, tough as nails, mouths like truck drivers, skirts dangerously short, lips the color of blood, hair piled up to heaven, and oh so angsty. So basically, everything I want to be. I made a Pinterest board about my obsession here.
|Velvet Crop Top - Chubby Cartwheels/Holographic skirt - Domino Dollhouse/Necklace - Dots|
Um can we talk about how good this Domino Dollhouse skirt is?! Very good. I'm still not over holographic stuff and might never be. Also, where else are you gonna find a silver velvet crop top for big girls other than Chubby Cartwheels? I think it's really important to support indie brands that are bringing something new and different to the table, so make sure you show them some love. Can we also talk about how goddamn cold it was outside when I was taking these photos? It was literally a blizzard. Most of them didn't come out well because I was making stank faces. The things I do 4 ~fashion~ you guys. I think Mr Araki would be into it.
