Is H&M's plus line utterly offensive to anyone else? It's nice to have some options for basics I guess, but does everything need to be so... basic? Is it wrong to expect better from H&M, purveyors of all things cute, on trend, and cheap? I dug and sifted through the virtual racks and all I came up with was this maxi dress with sheer overlay. Truth be told, I've been wearing it a ton but, like I said- it required much digging to find this treasure. You know that old adage "beggars can't be choosers?" I hate to sound whiny, but it's 2014 and I'm still wondering when I can stop being a beggar and start being a chooser when it comes to my wardrobe.

As for the chalice (my kingdom for a genuine Li'l Jon pimp cup!), pretend the blood of my enemies is in there- it will help you understand where I'm coming from.

I'm not one of those people who believe style is inborn. I think it's practiced and learned, and I'm at a point in my life where I've forced myself to accessorize for so long that I now feel naked without at least one piece of jewelry. My taste in jewelry is pretty immature and unrefined, admittedly. I'm always reaching for the piece that's going to be a conversation starter, rather than the classic piece that's going to last me forever. I don't think anything about me reads as "classy" anyway, so why not play it up? I fell in love with this fortune teller necklace from Domino Dollhouse the moment I saw it. If anyone needs a necklace like this in their life, it's obviously me. The nails are painted red. No regrets.

These boots from Twisted Shoes place this outfit firmly in Wicked Witch of the West territory, if only she were an 80s New Waver. I could totally see my beloved Siouxie Sioux rocking them (it's the fringe, really) and that's why they are now mine forever. I love that these are neither ankle boots, nor knee boots, but something in between. The heel is a bit higher than what I'm used to and therefore, I totally felt like a baby deer trying to walk in these.
With all the Drag Race I've watched, you'd think I could at least walk in a 4" heel, but alas. Until next time...

  1. I had a moment of major reading comprehension "whoa" on this entry, because you're holding a goblet or chalice. Challis is a type of fabric. Just FYI. ;-)

  2. This is such a great outfit! I totally get the "blood of my enemies" thing here - you remind me of some sort of dark queen. I've never read Macbeth, but that's the vibe I'm getting from this outfit.

And ugh, yes, I agree with you on the "beggars can't be choosers" thing. I don't really shop at H&M or Forever 21 anymore for that same reason. :/

  3. YES. I went to a huge H&M in Regents Street in London a few months back and my jaw was to the floor. Hidden away in a crappy corner where no one could find it there were a few racks and the items on them were atrocious just shapeless, frumpy rubbish. Urgh it annoys me because I love H&M! If I am lucky I can squeeze into there larges on something that is oversized, I just don't get it. I love this outfit you utter babe.

  4. I get you. The only thing I've bought form H&M+ is the waxed denim moto jacket, but most of the clothing they offer is incredibly boring. BTW, I love the evil witch vibe!

  5. Ha, good eye. That's what I get for doing 50 things at once. ;)

  7. Thanks my love! I'm just so disappointed, they could do so much with that line but it's completely DREADFUL.

  8. I got that too, but I could never figure out the fit! I must be between sizes there. And thank you!

  9. I'm from Europe and we've had the plus line since the nineties, and it's always been bad. At least they renamed it though, from the gag-worthy H&M BiB (stood for Big Is Beautiful). I hold a grudge against them for being so boring and bland and overpriced compared to the rest of their shit, but every now and then they put out something kinda cool and I almost always end up buying it. Which means that a lot of my favourite clothes are from H&M+ even though I hate them.

  10. It's still a great outfit, though I totally share your frustration with H&M+. I keep trying to shop the teensy plus sections at their NYC stores and failing to find anything even halfway decent. Also, for items so basic, I wonder about the price markup. Definitely not as much value for your dollar as with their straight-sized items. :-/

  11. AHHH that is totally gag worthy! Yuck. And yeah- I have a feeling I'm going to be in the same boat soon. It's sad to see a brand that is so capable of greatness failing so hard!

  12. Absolutely. I don't know who is doing their market research but I find it hard to believe their customers are interested in looking so matronly, ya know?

  13. Love your outfit! Having to dig around racks and finding something hidden does make it seem more special. But seriously, no more basics! They need to step it up. I'm sure everyone already has enough basics anyways.

  17. Wow, I scrolled and saw those boots! I have to have them! I'll be practicing in those! IDC if I can walk in them or not hahaha. I wants! About H&M...I feel like everything they have online is the most basic of basic things. Then you go in the store and see a lot of stuff that is fun, but they won't make it in plus size. I don't mind basics at all, but damn...they could attempt to make some things that they care in the "divisions" of H&M for us big girls.

  18. H&M's plus line has bored me since the moment I saw it in store. I'd been waiting so long for their plus sizes, it was a pretty big let-down when I finally saw it. I still gave H&M the benefit of the doubt, however, hoping that since the line was new, maybe things would improve as sales went up and their customer base grew. ...Sadly, nothing has been further from the truth. While I continue to see adorable, stylish straight sizes in H&M stores, I can't say the same for their plus sizes. It's pretty much the same old shit I could find at Target or Old Navy, and usually in blander colors. H&M is going to have to do a helluva lot better before I ever give them my money.
