Cheap Tricks: Maybelline ColorSensational Vivids Lipcolors (Swatches, Review)

Looking for a cost-effective way to rock the 'pop of color' trend this fall? Look no further than your local drugstore. Like I told you last week, I am totally obsessed with Maybelline ColorSensational Lipcolors, particularly the Vivids line. After buying my NINTH tube this week, I decided it was probably time to tell you a little more about my favorite budget lippies.
Maybelline ColorSensational lipsticks are probably the most highly pigmented lipcolors you're going to find at their price point, typically ranging from $5.99-$7.99. They're a creamy consistency, so they're not going to be matte, like most bold lipsticks tend to be. Their staying power is above average for a cream lipcolor- they do take a bit of work to remove and can sometimes stain the lips. I recommend using a lip primer underneath if that is a concern for you. I've skipped out on purchasing the more orangey shades in the range, as I have found with my coloring, orange lipsticks are incredibly unflattering. Therefore, I don't quite own every single Vivids lipcolor. The smell is a tiny bit perfumey (nowhere NEAR say, Rimmel lipsticks for example), so if you're sensitive to fragrance, you may want to skip out on these. So, have I talked you into these lippies yet?
How about now? These colors were all swatched on my bare skin, no primer or anything of that sort. I think there is truly a shade for everyone in this range. If you've been thinking about rocking a bold lip but aren't so sure you can pull it off, these lipsticks are pretty low-risk. They won't exactly break the bank, and most drugstores accept returns even on used products. Happy lipsticking!

  1. Oh my gosh, those look amazing! Vibrant Mandarin and Infra-red are totally up my alley...I'm into reds and oranges as my statement lip colors of choice. Thanks for the swatches! :)

  2. Maybelline should hire you because I actually bought two of these today: Shocking Coral and Electric Fuchsia. The offer was buy one, get one at half price so I just went for it. Usually I'm a lipstick snob and only buy MAC ;)
I have been looking for a coral with blue undertones for a while now. I love orange lipsticks but the yellow/orange undertones make me look sicky. I hope this coral will do the trick. It was a weird moody day with dark clouds all day so I haven't been able to test it in sunlight yet. But I am hoping it looks great. Thanks for the tip! Would also love to see pics of you wearing all of these ;) xxx

  3. Welcome! I like Infra-Red quite a bit, but it gets left behind a lot because I have SO MANY reds.

  4. Let me know what you think! I kind of thought Shocking Coral was vaguely similar to NARS Schiap, but I haven't swatched them side by side or anything and I could be totally wrong.

  7. I love this line! I get them from the Marc's closeouts sometimes for like $1. One time they had so many in a basket I just grabbed all of them not even testing the colors (hoarding). Are you Ready and Very Cherry are my favorites. I want Pink Pop! It reminds me of Mac's Candy Yum Yum a little.
