I was in Rite Aid yesterday, looking for something exciting to spend my rather impressive amount of +UP Rewards on, when I spied this display. All Maybelline products were BOGO50%OFF so I figured what the hell, why not. I am OBSESSED with Color Sensational lipsticks, the Vivids line in particular, and Lavender Voltage looked like it would be a lot of fun. I've never tried the EyeStudio palettes, and I LOVED the fall colors in this one, so I figured I'd give it a shot.
|Maybelline Color Sensational Lipstick in Lavender Voltage|
I own so many Color Sensational lipsticks that I feel like my dedication in a review in itself. But alas, these lip colors are creamy with an average wear time and excellent color payoff. I personally have never experienced bleeding at the lip line, but occasionally you may notice some staining of the lips after removal with these lipsticks. Lavender Voltage is a blue-based purple, in a jewel tone that is perfect for fall. (I love blue-based lip colors, they make your teeth look whiter.) However, I thought it looked a bit similar to a color I already had from the Vivids line, Brazen Berry. So I put them to the test to see if they were as similar as I thought.
The labels definitely look different, so I figured I'd swatch them side by side.
|Definitely not the same.|
Lavender Voltage, as I said, is more blue-based while Brazen Berry seems to be significantly more yellow-based. Good for Spring/Summer, but I think it's time for me to retire Brazen Berry for Fall/Winter.
Next, I tried out my EyeStudio Color Plush Silk Eyeshadow Palette in Desert Fantasy. I chose this particular palette over all others because I thought it was the most quintessentially "Fall." It's a four pan consisting of three shimmer shades and one matte.
We've got a peach with gold shimmer, a mustard color with gold shimmer, an olive green with gold shimmer, and a very dark brownish/army greenish matte color in this palette. These colors are buttery soft in the pan, so they are true to product name. However, the darker the color, the more trouble I had getting good color payoff on my actual eye. Not to mention, these colors did not blend well at all. Used over a primer, the wear time was good with no fallout, but I think that says more about my primer than these eyeshadows. (Milani, in case you were wondering.) I'm very disappointed, because I usually have great experiences with Maybelline eye products. I'm going to try them again soon, but the look I tried yesterday came out so poorly that it wasn't even worth taking a photo of. Don't give me a palette that I can't even blend, ya know?! This one might be going back to the store if it doesn't work out a second time.
