Joan Holloway, or Violet Beauregarde? You decide.

I first spied this dress at the Simply Be party I went to awhile back. In fact, I even took a photo to remember it! When I finally ordered it from Simply Be, I went against my better judgment and got the blue and black version. I have been trying to wear more color for spring and step outside my little black and white box. I thought it had a mod by way of Joan Holloway look (see below), so I paired it with my fave cheapy pair of Forever 21 flatforms (similar) and some polka dot tights from H&M (similar).

Did I look like Twiggy? Or maybe Mary Quant herself? When Alejandro got home from work the first thing he said was, "Wow, you look like a blueberry. And I do mean that in a nice way." But is there a nice way of telling someone that they look like a small, round, blue fruit? Probably not. Plus, I know what he really meant was I looked like this:

So... what do you think? Do I look like Violet Beauregarde pre-juicing? Or an extra from Quadrophenia?
Yowza! I should have ironed this before I left the house. Oops.
Perfect, perfect collar.
Every single time I wear these tights, I get stopped by tons of people on the street. Style tip: get ya some polka dot tights.
I like this dress a lot, actually. It's got just the right amount of stretch, while remaining quite structured. I like the length of it, surprisingly, as I am usually an above the knee girl. I'm shocked by how flattering it actually is, considering I have pretty short legs. And if someone tells me I look like Violet Beauregarde in it, I'm just gonna say "Thanks!" and give 'em a hair flip.

  1. Deffo Joan! You have the best legs & tiny ankles!!!! Love the colour and you total pulled this off! Maybe add a bling long necklace or collar clips to break up the blue a bit :D x

  8. I'm going to go with a blueberry-in-a-good-way. I like the black and blue combo but it never feels quite right when I've tried pairing the colors myself. I think this would look awesome in black with white stripes though.

Also, I always give myself a secret high-five when I find a cool lady who is also a glasses twin! Love 'em!

  9. Oh my gosh, I know exactly how you feel. I have a post in my queue that has exactly like this. Saw something, loved it, was a little out of my comfort zone but went for it anyways and I'm still unsure about it!

I think that you look great in this dress and you are WAY more Joanie than Violet. I personally love a blue black mix and I think that you styled it perfectly with the shoes and stockings. I like this look on you and think you should feel confident wearing it out. ;)

  15. Perfect, perfect! Ahaha at the blueberry comment, something my boyfriend would say too. One time I wore a vintage skirt and he said I looked "old fashioned." I wasn't quite sure how to take it. Anyway, that dress is made for you girl! The color...everything!
